Willie A Shaffer, John’s father, was a Chemical Engineer for the B F Goodrich Tire Company for 50 years. He worked for the chemical division in Cleveland Ohio. One day Willie started a hobby named “Lapidary Arts”. He cut different shapes out of stones and minerals. He then polished and placed them in settings. He made necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. He started out by giving his creations away as gifts, and selling them to his friends. In 1977 Willie started his own business and named it "The Rock Seller". It started out in the cellar of his home. In 1978 he taught me how to cut stones and minerals. I helped him with his business until I joined the United States Air Force as a firefighter in 1986. In 1990 I separated from the military and became a civilian full time firefighter. I presently work for The City of Somersworth. In 1988 I met my wife Barb. She works in nursing for Seacoast Hospice. We presently reside in the New England area. Unfortunately in September of 2006, Willie passed away unexpectedly. Barb and I decided we wanted to keep the “Lapidary Arts” tradition in the family.
We started our own business in January of 2007. We named it "Inner Earth Creations". We went out and registered our name and purchased equipment to set up our own lapidary shop. We then started creating our own line of jewelry. We started out making necklaces, bracelets and earrings. We named this business "In Memory of Willie A Shaffer". We recently started a rose quartz, beach stone, sea glass, and “recycled broken plate” line of jewelry and donate 15 percent of the rose quartz sales to the Breast Cancer Foundation, in memory of Barbs mom, and the patients she takes care of at Seacoast Hospice. Barb and I have just added a new dimension to our business. “Professional Engraving” We engrave on granite, glass, wood, and slate and have many fonts to choose from. We can personalize any plaque or clock for any special occasion. All of our stands, frames and shadow boxes are hand crafted out of hard woods. We have been officially approved to print the “IAFF” logo for the International Association of Fire Fighters. We donate 10% of IAFF sales to the “National Burn Foundation”.
Barb and I really enjoy making all of our different products. We have our jewelry and fine arts in local stores around the seacoast. We also sell our jewelry and fine arts at craft fairs and rock & mineral shows. We hope that if you purchase one of our products, you will enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.
SINCERELY, BARB & JOHN SHAFFER
